Topic Summary

As insurers continue to adopt automation, centralized claims models, and efficiency-driven workflows, unintended consequences are increasingly surfacing at the claim level. Drawing from real-world claim scenarios and consumer-facing advisory work, Cameron Mooney examines where modern claims handling systems perform well, where they break down in practice, and how seemingly small process gaps can escalate into disputes, appraisals, regulatory complaints, and litigation. This session focuses on practical observations, communication breakdowns, and early risk signals claims professionals can identify to reduce friction and downstream exposure.

Guest Speaker: Cameron Mooney

Cameron is the CEO and co-founder of Tugboat, a platform that provides homeowners with structured tools and education for navigating property insurance claims. He is a licensed public adjuster and former independent adjuster, with experience handling and reviewing property claims for dozens of insurance carriers across a variety of loss types and policy forms.

Cameron’s work focuses on claims process, coverage interpretation, and communication practices within the property insurance ecosystem. He regularly collaborates with homeowners, contractors, and insurance professionals and brings a cross-functional perspective informed by both carrier-side and consumer-facing experience.
